Inspector General of Police, T. E. Anandarajah has appointed Senior DIG Jayatissa Herath to probe the attack on Highways Minister A. L. M. Athaullah opposite the SLMC headquaters 'Darussalam' on December 1.

IGP Anandarajah appointed Senior DIG Herath on a directive by Interior and Christian Affairs Minister, John Amaratunga.

Athaullah's complaint stated that the attack on several SLMC leaders including the Minister was pre-arranged. Several government vehicles were also damaged during the attack.

On a directive by the IGP, Slave Island police visited the scene the same night and conducted investigations.
