by Kurunegala North group correspondent In a bid to solve the employment problem and implement a National Employment Policy 17 Job Nets covering all districts will be set up shortly, irrespective of political affiliations and these job nets will provide suitable employment opportunities for the educated youth of this country and others trained in various vocations, said Johnston Fernando, Minister Youth Affairs and Sports addressing a youth seminar held at the Youth Centre Aluthmalkaduwawa, Kurunegala recently. Inaugurating the youth seminar the Minister said that during the short period since the UNF Government came to power, it was able to realise the importance of economic development under the very able guidance of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe by harnessing the talents of young men and women in the country. Minister Fernando said that according to the scheme, computerised data of the unemployed would help to secure the right job for the right person. He said that a fully computerised national job referral system would benefit both employee and employer where employment opportunities are concerned with the required qualifications either here or abroad. The Minister also said that the UNF Government was extremely grateful to the Norwegian Government for its grant of four billion US dollars to initiate the scheme and added that more funds were required either from foreign or local donors to make the scheme a success. Mrs. Amara Piyaseeli Ratnayake Minister of Women's Affairs, Anura Gopallawa MP Kurunegala District and several others also spoke. |
