by Malwana special correspondent

The Government will provide financial assistance and training to under-privileged but talented sportsmen and women in rural areas. A fully fledged sports schools will also be set up in each divisional secretariat area with Indian aid, said Minister of School Education Suranimala Rajapakse.

The Minister was speaking as chief guest at the annual inter-house sportsmeet of Pugoda Kumarimulla Muslim Vidyalaya, recently. The sportsmeet was presided by Principal M. J. A. Rifai. The Minister said everyone is talented.

"But on account of many reasons, economic hardships in particular, opportunities of bringing out these talents are deprived. It is because of these reasons that the Prime Minister initiated youth battalion to create revolution in education, science and sports," he said.

He said the recruitment of youth to youth battalion is in progress in each Divisional Secretariat areas throughout the country.

Youth's role in the development of the country is indispensable. Youth will be provided opportunities to bring out their latent talents and make them contribute their part to the development of the country, he said. There is no political background to this at all. The main aim of this project is to give the talented a proper status, he said.
