by Kandy staff correspondent Three young men remanded earlier for allegedly operating a bogus 'mini kachcheri' in a shop at De Soysa Lane, Kandy, were released on Rs. 10,000 cash and Rs. 50,000 personal bail by Kandy Magistrate D. L. M. Seniviratne on Wednesday. The suspects are S. M. Rizvi of Kengalle, M. H. M. Shajahan of Katukele and S. H. M. Haris of Tennekumbura, Kandy. When the case was called, Attorneys-at-law Upali Bogahapitiya and Aftab Jameel informed court that one suspect has a licence to operate a foreign job agency. They said that the suspects are on remand for more than two weeks and moved that they be released on bail. SI Y. H. P. Weerasinghe, OIC Range Intelligence Unit of Kandy police informed court that police had taken a large number of forged and unused government documents, several forged rubber stamps of top government officials and several passports into custody. He told court that police inquiries were still incomplete and moved that suspects be further remanded. The Magistrate released the suspects on cash and personal bail and directed them to report to the OIC Range Vice Unit of Kandy police between 9 a. m. and 12 noon every Sunday. He also ordered the suspects to appear in court on June 26. |
