by Avissawella group correspondent

A knowledge of English language and computer literacy is a must for youths for a bright and prosperous future, said Prof. G. L. Peiris, Minister of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion and Constitutional Affairs.

speaking at the inauguration of an English class for students of Computer and Information Technology organised by the Prof. G. L. Peiris said "We have laid a strong foundation for peace which cannot be shattered by false propaganda." He said the UNF government has saved the lives of thousands of people after the ceasefire agreement. A single death has not been reported from the forces during last year. This is great achievement, the Minister said.

Peiris said the country should be proud to have a leader like Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. His farsighted vision, determination, dedication and straight forward behaviour gave courage to the government to face any situation, the Minister said.

He said tourist hotels were closed due the deteriorated economy left by the previous regime.

"There wasn't a fly in these hotels. Now they are full with tourists, because we have stopped the war," the Minister said. He said today anyone can go about in the country without any suspicion and fear. The Minister said today we are at a decisive function.

"If we continue this ruthless war, there won't be any future for us," he said.

Arvi Fiyoto, Secretary General of World View International Foundation said Sri Lanka is a beautiful country.

Jayantha Ketagoda, Colombo district MP and Avissawella UNP organiser said English is an international language and everyone must try to learn English.

Tilanga Vitanage, Director of World View International Foundation said knowledge in English language is essential to obtain foreign jobs.

"We provide a six month course in computer technology and English. Our youths must reap the benefit of these courses and try to be useful citizens," he said.

K. D. P. Arsakularatne, Chairman Seetavakapura Urban Council said the course is important because it helps to learn computer technology and English.

Ven. Mahopadya Werahera Ariyawansa Adhikarana Sangha Nayaka and Director Bhikku Pirivena Teachers Institute Avissawella said English is an indispensable language in the modern world. It helps one to brighten the horizon and reach a bright future, he said.
