A complete record book for 2003 World Cup One-day Internationals - the complete record book by Rajneesh Gupta Published by Rajneesh Gupta, Price: Rs. 250.00 (Indian) One-day cricket is all about batting and to score runs timing is important. Rajneesh Gupta could not have timed the arrival of his book 'One-day Internationals, the complete record book' better, just three months before the 2003 World Cup. With the influx of one-day internationals that is being played today, it is not an easy task for anyone compiling a book of this magnitude, let alone Gupta to bring out a publication that is upto date with the latest statistics. By the time the book comes out of print, it is already outdated because of the pace at which these over-limit games are played. Nevertheless, someone has to do it and Gupta has had the courage to undertake the task of getting together all the statistics that is available on this fascinating game into one book running into 320 pages to make it a handy reference especially to the print and electronic media, to whom time is an important factor because of the ever demanding deadlines they have to meet. I am sure those who have the opportunity to get their hands on a copy of Gupta's wealth of one-day statistics will find it a more than useful ally to help them out with their commentaries or copies to enlightening both listeners and readers alike. That Gupta has been able to update his publication till the end of the ICC Champions trophy in Colombo in September 2002 makes it closer to becoming a complete record book for the 2003 World Cup. I am sure those who flip the pages of this mass of statistics will benefit by the wealth of information it affords and that it will also enlighten them to the extent that they can become an expert on cricket records. It may even be used to settle disputes that may arise on cricket especially in the pubs where the game is more often than not discussed over a drink. For those who revel in statistics, Gupta's publication affords a fascinating journey into the cricket world of one-day figures. A supplement or a second publication updating the figures will be most welcome. [Reviewed by Sa'adi Thawfeeq]
