Record 1,031 entries for 14th annual SLIM awards 2003

A record number of 1,031 entries have been received for the 14th annual SLIM awards 2003 on March 1, at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Hall.(SLECC.)

Chairperson SLIM Awards Sub Committee, Tusitha Kumarakulasingham said that the previous highest number of entries were 924 which was for last year's awards ceremony.

She said that the event is gaining popularity and it was the reason for the record number of entries. "The SLIM awards are being recognised as a tool to measure capability, productivity and the popularity of an advertising agency. People in the industry know that the event is well organised and judgements are purely on merit. Slim Awards has now come to stay," she said.

Entries were accepted in two main classifications, the main Marcom Category and the integrated Marcom category. A total of 141 awards including the main awards in the Press, Television and Radio along with the AD of the year and Campaign of the year award will be recognised at the SLIM awards 2003. The Committee has also decided to introduce an 'Agency of the year' award on the basis of the total quality of awards won by each agency.

She said that the names of the Judges have been finalised for the event and two Indian Marketing personnel too have been included for the panel.

Vice President and Executive Creative Director Contact Advertising JWT Delhi, Syeda Imam and Consultant Advertising India, Nikhil Nehru are the two Indian Judges.

The Chairman of the Judges Panel for the main Marcom and integrated Marcom category will be the General Manager - Head/Personal Lines Eagle Insurance Co. Ltd, Deepal Sooriyaarachchi.

The advertising Professionals who will be involved in the judging of the Main Marcom Panels are Executive Creative Director Ogilvy Outreach (Pvt) Ltd, Upali Herath, Creative Director Minds FCB (Pvt.) Ltd, Shardul Sharligram, Chief Executive Officer Homes Pollard and Stott (Pvt.) Ltd, Pradeep Amirthanayagam, Director/ General Manager Grant McCann Erickson, Rohan Rajaratnam and the two Indian Judges.

The two Marketing Professionals in this category are Brands Director Unilever Ceylon Ltd, Amal Cabraal and Marketing Director New Zealand Milk Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Achyut Reddy.

The SLIM awards committee has nominated four Marketing Professionals, Managing Director Hemas Marketing (pte) Ltd, Debu Bhatnagar, Managing Director Reckitt Benchiser (Lanka ) Ltd, Ravi Fernando, CEO McLarens Lubricants Ltd, Trevor Reckerman and Director Sales & Marketing, Smithkline Beecham (Pvt) Ltd Dehan Seneviratne as judges for the Integrated Marcom Panel. Director Strategic Planning Phoenix O&M (Pvt) Ltd Andrew Samuel and Creative Director LDB Lintas (Pvt) Ltd, Yohann Raymond are the two advertising professional judges in this category. "Judging will commence on February 1 and will be conducted in two sessions by the two panels. The common link to the two panels will be the Chairman," she said.

The strategic partners for this event for the past eight years have been Dulux. The main partners are Hiru FM, Maliban, and Suntel. The media partners for the SLIM awards are Rupavahini, ANCL, Sun FM and Sha FM.

The co-partners for the event are Graphitec, Business Today, SLECC, SriLankan Airlines, Sign-Tech, Swedish Trading and Trans Asia Hotel ACNIelsen.

The event which is classified as the most glamorous marketing communication event of the year is being conducted by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing in association with the FOUR A's. (Accredited Advertising Agencies Association).
