'Atavisi Buddha Pooja'to invoke blessings on late Gamini Athukorale

The 'Atavisi Buddha Pooja' to mark the first death anniversary of late Minister and UNP Assistant Leader Gamini Athukorale will be held at the Vajiraramaya Temple, Bambalapitiya today Friday (17) Poya Day at 6.30 p.m.

The pooja will be conducted by Venerable Borelle Athula Thera. The chief organiser of the event, Bodhisiri Ranasinghe said that free textbooks and several wheel chairs will be offered to invoke blessings on late Gamini Athukorale.

Ministers Milinda Moragoda, Gamini Lokuge, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne and several other ministers and parliamentarians are expected to grace the occasion. The late Mr. Athukorale rendered yeoman service to the UNP and was a parliamentarian for 25 years entering Parliament in 1977.

He was also the general secretary of the party and braved threats to bring the party back to power in 2001 December.
