The political columnist of the pro PA Lakmina publication Keerthi Warnakulasooriya has been fired from his job after an internal investigation revealed his piece about the assassination plot on the President was a fiction. According a report filed in a Colombo based website Colombo Page, a spokesman for the newspaper had indicated that the report by Warnakulasooriya who is also its Chief Editor was without basis and a fiction. The paper created a sensation when its banner headlined lead story proclaimed that there was a plot to assassinate the President with the backing of a PA politician. Former PA media spokesman Sripathi Sooriyaarachchi whose name figured prominently in connection with the newspaper contacted by the Daily News yesterday denied any link either with the newspaper or the article. He said he was only retained in the capacity of a lawyer for the newspaper. He denied there was any journalist by the name of Keerthi Warnakulasooriya in the Lakmina newspaper. |
