'Mannaram Mela' to fund holiday home

With the commencement of the peace process families of soldiers living in the southern areas will be able to spend their holidays in Mannar very soon. Arrangements have already been made by the Sri Lanka Army to build a holiday complex in Thalladi camp area.

"After a lapse of over 15 years, families of the soldiers have begun to visit Mannar in large numbers, but they have no proper place to stay overnight.

A grand trade fair" Mannaram Mela " with musical shows and many other recreational events will be held on January 18 - 19 to raise funds for a holiday complex estimated to cost approximately Rs 2 million. The holiday complex is expected to be completed within three months. Pesalai fishing village and ice factory, Murunkan Kovil, the abandoned Manu Viharaya built by the Army and two big refugee camps and a few other historical places are among the places that attract visitors in the area. "Mannaram Mela" has been organised with the assistance of the Police and Navy.
