Applications called from mediamen for lands

The Government Information Department has called in applications from Media personnel for allotment of building blocks in Homagama for putting up their own houses to help overcome their present housing problems.

The allotments will be made from Mt Clifford Estate, Homagama owned by the National Housing Development Authority.

The Information Department said in a press release that following a request made by Mass Communication Minister Imthiaz Bakeer Markar, the Housing and Infrastructure Minister Arumugam Thondaman has agreed to release 141 blocks of land from Mt Clifford Estate, Homagama for allotments to journalists for housing purposes.

Applicants should possess the accreditation card issued by the Information Department to establish a continuous service for 10 years as a professional journalist or any other eligibility to qualify for an allotment. The applicant or his/her spouse should not be in possession of a house or a land for building a house within a radius of 30 km from the Homagama Town. (To be supported with an affidavit).

He or she should also ensure the construction of a house on the land after having satisfied the eligibility within one year.

The allotments will be made subject to the following conditions:-

* 25% of the value of the land should be paid in one instalment, and the balance 75% be paid within 20 years free of interest.

* After having satisfied the eligibility, the allottee should prove the financial ability to construct the house within a year.

* Should use the land obtained and the house constructed thereon for his/her occupation only. Should not let/lease/transfer to any other person.

* The Housing Development Finance Corporation has agreed to grant loan facilities for the construction of the house on the land allotted and the ability to pay back the loan monthly should be established.

* The applicant should agree on the publication in the National Newspapers of the list of names of those who have satisfied the basic eligibility, for the purpose of obtaining the suggestions and views. Also should agree to the condition that the decision of the Selection Committee shall be final and conclusive.

* Allotment of lands will be made by drawing lots among those who are eligible. Applications prepared according to the specimen form and duly filled in by all applicants should be sent by registered post to reach the following address before 10.00 a.m. on 31st January, 2003.

Applications sent by fax or otherwise will be rejected.

Applicants who have been informed of their selection for the interview could examine the plan of the block of land relating to the Project when they call in for the interview.
