by Asanga Warnakulasuriya Six persons including five schoolchildren were killed when a hand grenade exploded at a school play ground at Katiyawa, Eppawela yesterday afternoon. The incident took place around 2 p.m., police said. One boy died on the spot while others succumbed to their injuries while being taken to hospital. Amongst the victims were two boys from the same family. A police official said the explosion may have occurred when the students were examining the hand grenade alleged to have been lying near the play ground. The three students killed in the incident were identified by relatives while two others are at the Eppawala Hospital for identification by last evening. Eppawala Police is investigating. |
