STC to open Swashakthi Medura in Jaffna STC General Trading has taken steps to set up a branch of their self-employment support centre, Swashakthi Medura in Jaffna soon. The need for such a centre for Jaffna was highlighted when Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake's visited Jaffna recently where he had instructed the STC Officials to look for a suitable building and take steps to open the centre within the next few months. "I hope that Swashakthi Medura would help to rebuild the Jaffna economy, which was destroyed by the war and provide more employment for the youth," Karunanayake said. The Swashakthi division of STC was started in 1989 to help the small industries sector and to create self-employment projects by providing high quality machinery and industrial equipment at a reasonable price. The first Swashakthi Medura opened at Park Street Colombo 2 in 1989 offers a wide range of tools and equipment for a host of industries including motor maintenance and repair, carpentry and wood work, metal work, food processing, masonry, motors and measuring tools. |
