by Kandy staff correspondent Lohan Ratwatte, who is on a Rs. 1 lakh personal bail with his mother as surety, and seven others, suspects in an abuse and threat case, were directed to appear in court after five months by the Kandy Magistrate D.L.M. Seniviratne when they appeared in court on Monday. The other suspects are Herath Banda, C. Ratnayake, Sumith Karunaratne, V. Karunaratne, Rohana Kumara, K. Karunaratne and R. Wijesinghe. According to CID, the suspects are alleged to have abused and threatened the former Central Range DIG, Sirisena Herath at his office in Kandy on October 12, 2000. When the case was called SI, K.M. Ratnayake of the CID submitted a further report and said that the CID had forwarded the inquiry proceedings to the Attorney-General and was awaiting instructions to file plaint. The Magistrate put off the case for June 16 and directed all suspects to appear in court on the next date. Attorney-at-law M.P. Jayasinghe with Rohitha Tennakoon and Purnima Paranagama appeared for the suspects. |
