Sydney, Tuesday (AFP) Australia has deported 34 Sri Lankans from a controversial immigration detention center on remote Christmas Island, officials said Tuesday. The immigration ministry said the 34 men were sent home on Monday, leaving only 12 inmates at the center on Christmas Island, located in the Indian Ocean about 1,750 kilometers (1,050 miles) off Australia's northwest coast. |
