Tenth Exporters' Forum

The tenth Exporters Forum will be held on January 20 at 4 pm at the BMICH. The Forum will be jointly chaired by Prof. G.L. Peiris, Minister of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy and Investment Promotion and Ravi Karunanayake, Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs in association with Rohitha Bogollagama, Minister of Industries.

At the ninth Exporters Forum the Shippers' Council requested to incorporate Terminal Holding Charge (THC) in the freight rate or remove THC.

It was stated that Sub Committee on Economic Affairs of the Government had studied this issue and found a solution.

A request to remove export cess on activated carbon was another issue that had not been resolved for a long time. It was stated that at the last Tariff Review Committee (TRC) meeting that the Chairman, Coconut Development Authority was entrusted to formulate a graded scheme to remove the export cess from coconut products exports according to their value additions. The TRC would arrive at a final decision on this matter before the next forum.

There was also a request from the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce to lobby with the war risk rating committee in UK to remove held cover status under which the country is categarised at present. It was said that the background information had been collected and some sort of canvassing had already been initiated. There will be positive response in this regard by end of January. Four issues have been submitted for the tenth Exporters' Forum.
