Jeremy Carter to address Directors

Jeremy Carter, Senior Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will address the 15th Power Breakfast Meeting organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) on January 31 at 7.30 a.m. at Hotel Taj Samudra. His address will focus on "Growth, what it would take".

Carter joined the International Monetary Fund in 1983 and was posted to the Statistics Department as an Economist.

In 1991 he was appointed Senior Economist and Resident Representative in Prague. He carried out his duties as Resident Representative until 1993.

Prior to his appointment in Sri Lanka, Carter served as the Deputy Division Chief (from 2002 Advisor) South East Asia Pacific Department, Central Asia Department and the Asia Pacific Department until he assumed office as Senior Resident Representative of the IMF Office in Sri Lanka in 2002.

As the Senior Resident Representative Carter aims to support medium term structural program arrangement with the Fund; To help in economic decision making in Sri Lanka within the public and private sector; Work with any other interested people in broad direction of economics in Sri Lanka; Provide resources/information to Sri Lanka on economic issues, national and international, that may be of interest to the Sri Lankan community.

Carter, before embarking on his career at the IMF was also attached to the Central Statistical Office, UK and has also been involved in the preparation of the national accounts during the period 1975 to 1979 after which he joined the Treasury in the United Kingdom and was involved in the budget preparation and public expenditure and served as the Head of the Survey Control and Classification Unit in the Cabinet Office in the United Kingdom.
