Bombay bomb blast accused escapes from police custody BOMBAY, Jan 7 (AFP) - One of four men accused in last month's twin bomb blasts in India's western commercial hub of Bombay escaped from police custody early Tuesday, Maharashtra state home minister Kripashankar Singh said. "The accused was being escorted in a police vehicle when the vehicle met with an accident after which he managed to flee," Singh told AFP. Police have begun a manhunt for Younus and a detailed report was to be made available Wednesday, said joint police commissioner Javed Ahmed. A Bombay McDonald's franchise and passenger bus outside a suburban railway station were both targeted by bombs in December, leaving many injured and two dead. Four people were arrested in connection with the blasts and were charged under the recently introduced Prevention of Terroist Act. The police have ruled out involvement by the Pakistani secret service in the blasts. |
