The four Labour Bills which were the subject of much debate both in Parliament and outside were passed yesterday in the House with amendments. The debate commenced Tuesday and continued till 9.00 pm but had to be postponed as the Opposition requested more time to study the amendments. The four Bills were Industrial Disputes (Hearing and Determination of proceedings- Special Provision) Bill, Industrial Disputes (Amendment ) Bill, Termination of Employment of Workmen (Special Provisions -Amendment) Bill and Employment of Women, Young Persons and Children (Amendment) Bill. Since the Government expressed its willingness to accept the amendments proposed by the Opposition, sittings ended without any incident. |
