Intellectual Property Symposium from Jan 28 to 30 The National Intellectual Property Office in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) will organise an international symposium on public outreach in intellectual property in Colombo from January 28 to 30. Director, Intellectual Property Dr. D.M. Karunaratne said that 40 participants representing 27 Asia/Pacific countries will participate in the symposium. The main objective was to exchange knowledge and expertise on public outreach programs among the participants. He said that the symposium was a result of a request made by Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake to the WIPO, seeking their assistance to make Sri Lanka a regional hub of intellectual property activities. Dr. Karunanatne said that the IP system's role in the creation of wealth would also be highlighted at the symposium, specially those relating to the global drift towards a knowledge-based economy. He said that the National Intellectual Property Office conducted a series of television programs and an essay competition among school children in all three languages as their public outreach programs last year. |
