Maxwell de Silva elected to Shipbrokers Executive Council - ICS UK

ICS Sri Lanka said that their Chairman, Maxwell de Silva recently was elected to the newly structured Executive Council thereby becoming the First Asian/Non Britisher to get elected by ballot recording the highest number of votes at the recently concluded elections in London.

De Silva joins the Executive Council which is the highest decision making body in The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers UK and will be responsible for regional development and education.

M. Ilmi Secretary, ICS Sri Lanka said this achievement was possible due to the untiring efforts of the local branch and the inroads made in IT wherein Sri Lanka was the only branch which had their examination results on line thereby creating history.

ICS UK is looking towards the Sri Lanka branch as a role model for our achievements in IT and our Website which was launched last year with the development assistance of Suntel is one of the best sites in the ICS.

He said De Silva's leadership and vision had made the Sri Lanka branch and our country proud and with this development, Sri Lanka is becoming more visible in the international shipping map.Last year ICS Sri Lanka's Most Senior Member, Karu Jayasuriya was the chief guest at the ICS Worldwide Awards Ceremony at the historic Drapers Hall in London. The ICS Sri Lanka annual awards ceremony will be held on January 31 at the Hotel Taj Samudra with the participation of Rauff Hakeem as the chief guest and Suntel will be the principal sponsor/partner again for the event.

This year too ICS SL will be selecting the Best Shipping Agent/Customer Services to USA, Europe and Intra-Asia and have retained AC Nilesen, one of the world renowned survey companies for the independent survey.

ICS being a member of the organisation of Professional Association of Sri Lanka conducts classes for the industry and the ICS qualification is the highest in the field of shipping.
