Weightlifters for SAF Games by Kandy Sports Correspondent Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation has selected a national pool of 16 lifters in preparation for the SAF Games to be held in Pakistan shortly, according to a release by the Secretary of the Federation D. U. M. Jayatillake. The following names have been sent to the Sports Ministry for its approval. The squad: 56 kg. category: M. G. M. Nimal (Army) and G. C. W. Gamage (Air Force). 62 kg. category: C. G. Vidanage (Air Force) P. K. N. Dhayan (YMCA, Kandy). 69 kg. category: A. G. D. L. Jayasinghe (Air Force), S. M. R. Gunatillake (Kurunegala WLC). 77 kg. category: N. P. K. Herath (Kandy YMCA), D. I. Nicholas (Torrington WLC). 85 kg. category: T. M. U. B. Jayatillake (Army), U. J. P. Perera (University of Peradeniya). 94 kg. category: A. E. Wijewickrema (Kandy YMCA), K. S. Narayana (Air Force). 105 kg. category: N. N. Athukorale (Torrington WLC), H. P. R. Bandara (Air Force). Over 105 kg. category: Ransilu Jayatillake (Kingswood College), M. N. B. Irshard (Kurunegala WLC). National Powerlifting championships on Dec. 28 by Kandy sports corr. The National Powerlifting Championship organised by the Sri Lanka Powerlifting Federation will be held at the University Gymnasium, Peradeniya on Saturday, December 28 commencing at 9 a.m. Over a 100 men and women powerlifters from all parts of the island are expected to participate in this senior National Championship and this will include several National Record holders. A point of local interest will be Asian Silver Medal and World Bronze Medal winner 15 year old Ransilu Jayatillake who has established several local records in both powerlifting and weightlifting will be seen in action at this championship and he will represent Kingswood College. He will compete in the 110 kg. weight category. |
