Explosive find at Katugastota by Katugastota Group Correspondent Katugastota Police on Sunday recovered a bomb containing 18 kilogrammes of high explosives from the backyard of a house in Katugastota and took the house owner into custody, for questioning in this connection. Police said the suspect who is an owner of a junk shop in Kandy and an Agency Post Office at Madawala road, Katugastota is being interrogated at length to ascertain how the bomb came to be hidden in his backyard. So far he has not given any clue about this incident. Police said they stumbled on the bomb when they were searching for some stolen goods following the arrest of a suspect involved in a spate of robberies in Katugastota Mawilmada and Aruppola areas recently. Several stolen articles worth nearly Rs. 200,000 including cassette radios, video decks, TV sets and an old gramaphone were also found in one of the shops owned by the suspect trader. A police party led by Katugastota police OIC Chief Inspector Abeyratne Bandara is conducting investigations directed by ASP Jayasinghe. |
