Pan Asia Bank opens branch in Matara

Pan Asia Bank (PAB) opened its first branch last week in Matara. Well-known entrepreneur, Dammika Perera, who is also the single largest shareholder of NDB, was the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony. "In my view, PAB is one of the most promising smaller banks in Sri Lnaka". "That's why I decided to become the largest shareholder and a Director of PAB. I am helping it to achieve its vision of becoming the most customer-preferred commercial bank in Sri Lanka," he said.

Raja Hewabowala, Sri Lanka's most outstanding entrepreneur for 2001, was the first depositor at the branch opening. "Opening our first Southern branch at Matara marks a significant milestone in our program of profitable growth," W.M. Abeyratna Bandara, Chairman of PAB said. A state-of-the-art ATM terminal with a touch screen provides PAB customers in Matara real-time online access to their accounts at any PAB branch.

Priyantha Pieris, Manager of the new branch, said that over 270 accounts were opened on the first day itself.

The Matara branch opening was also the platform for the launch of a new corporate identity for Pan Asia as 'PAB Bank'.

"I have been to many bank branch openings in Matara, but, this was the first time I saw such a large number of people from such diverse backgrounds," Sugath Andramana, the former Mayor of Matara said. "In addition to business people who usually attend such occasions, I saw teachers, housewives and even local fishermen and farmers," he said, affirming PAB's efforts to provide personalised banking services to a large cross-section of people.
