PA-JVP secret talks on forming alliance

by Jayantha Sri Nissanka

The SLFP and the JVP are having secret negotiations to form an alliance to work on mutual issues which both parties are agreeing and also to defeat the Government in future elections, PA sources told the Daily News.

But most of the senior PA MPs are unaware of the move. PA Senior MP Jeyaraj Fernandopulle said that he was unaware of such a discussion. "I only know what has been revealed in the media", he said.

However, PA General Secretary D.M.Jayaratne admitted that certain senior PA MPs are discussing with the JVP to work together on common issues.

"But this process still in unofficial stage. It could turn to an alliance in the future", he said.

When asked whether the proposed alliance will work against the peace process, Jayaratne said that the SLFP stand on the peace process was positive though the JVP is opposing.

That is where the PA and JVP differ", he said.

Senior PA MP John Seneviratne also admitted that certain senior PA MPs are having discussions with the JVP informally to form an alliance.

"But this is on an individual basis upto now ", he said.

No JVP MP was available for a comment.
