Kandy's Samadhi Cultural Centre Dhamma school students excelled at the YMBA (English Medium) Dhamma examinations. The Samadhi Cultural Centre of Wattarantenna is teaching Buddha Dhamma in English. The Dhamma School which functions at the centre was organised by Ven. Sastravedi Wehigala Dhammasiri, the centre's Viharadhikari in 1998. It functions from 2 pm to 5 pm on Sundays and classes are held from Grade three to Senior Grade. It presents students annually to the internationally held English Medium by the YMBA Colombo. At the June 2002 examinations, out of 12 candidates presented by the centre for the preliminary level examination candidates obtained five distinctions and five credit passes and One an ordinary pass. Only one candidate was unsuccessful. At the Junior Level Examination of the same year six candidates passed with two distinctions, three credit passes and one ordinary pass. This is the only English Medium Dhamma School in the island outside of Colombo. The principal is Ven. Wehigala Dhammasiri and the tutorial staff consists R.G. Wijesekera, W.M.K. Kuluppuarachchi, A.G.S. Kariyawasam, Balakumarihamy, S. Bakmeedeniya, H. Vithanage, K. Herath. The board of Student-prefects is composed of A. Mahesh Wijesekara, M.S. Lokugamage, N.P. Weeratunga, R.A. Uduwawala, R.N.U. Wedege, D.S. Lokugamage. The centre built according to Chinese architecture in 1996 by Venerable Sastrapathi Rambukewela Gnanasiri Thera, is now an attraction among tourists and also a centre for disseminating Dhamma in the hill country. |
