by Rashomi Silva and Adalachenai correspondent Life in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts is returning to normal with the ceasing of rains the respective Divisional secretariats have announced. Immediate flood-relief measures were taken in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts after the recent visit of Ravindra Samaraweera, Minister of Social Services and Rauff Hakeem, Minister of Ports, Eastern Development and Muslim Religious Affairs, the ministry of Eastern Development said. After the high-level meeting held in the districts attended by Ministers Samaraweera, Hakeem, district MPs, Divisional Secretaries, and the Police, the Ministry of Social Service have agreed to allocate rupees four million to Trincomalee district, Rs. two million to Ampara and Batticaloa districts respectively. Cooked meals were provided to the displaced families for three days, whilst the other affected families were given dry rations for three days, ministry added. Divisional Secretariats are now in the process of assessing the damage to property. Meanwhile, residents of Ampara district have started their day-to-day activities and the displaced are now coming back to their homes. |
