St. Peter's College was selected as the Best Team at the Observer/Bata Schoolboy cricketer of the year contest organised by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited and held recently.

This was in fact the fifth successive occasion that the Peterites won this award having first won the title in the year 1997/98. The team on that occasion was captain by Malinda Warnapura who was also selected as the best all rounder of the competition.

The Peterites led by Jerome Fernando produced a repeat performance in the 1998/99 season and carried away the best team award once again. Incidentally Jerome Fernando was named as the best fielder in the same year. In the 1999/2000 inter school season too St. Peter's College won the best team award and the side was captained by Chryshantha Peiris.

Mahesh Perera who captained St. Peter's in the 2000/2001 inter school season produced the same performance to clinched the title once again. In addition Mahesh Perera was also named as best captain in the same year. In the concluded inter school cricket season St. Peter's College captained by Jehan Jayasuriya again stole the lime light winning the best team award.

Last year Kaushal Lokuarachchi was selected as the Schoolboy Cricketer of the year while Gihan de Silva was the runner up in the best fielders contest this year. In fact Kaushal Lokuarachchi is only the second Peterite to win this prestigious award. Lokuarachchi collected a total of 623 runs and captured 82 wickets and went on to represent the country in a test match against England at the Asgiriya Stadium.
