Project to help war heroes' families Projects are being launched for war heroes' families in tea small holdings under the patronage of Small Holdings Development Minister Susantha Punchi Nilame. The Programme's first step was held at Mathugama Urban Council auditorium where free legal assistance was provided to war heroes' families. The Minister told the Daily News most people had forgotten sacrifices made by war heroes during the last 20 years for the nation. "Though the green light of peace visible it will take at least 20 more years to rehabilitate war heroes' families who had sacrificed their lives for the people's safety. The families who had lost their breadwinner are still suffering," Punchi Nilame said. "It is our duty to serve these families and their members and the new programme was launched for the families in the Small holdings," the Minister said. The Ranaviru Authority, the Land Reforms Commission, The Tea Small Holdings Authority and the Tea Sakthi Foundation jointly conducted the programme. Other objectives of the programme are to provide lands for homeless war heroes' families, priority in schools for children of war heroes, housing facilities and job opportunities for war heroes' families. |
