Srimantha shines for Peterites

In a month where youngsters are shining for their respective schools, coming straight on the heels of outstanding performances by Royalist Dimitri Siriwardene and Nalandian Sachitra Serasinghe, both of whom scored centuries for the first eleven sides at the tender ages of 15 and 14 respectively, young 12 year old wicket keeper batsman Srimantha Wijeyeratne, representing St. Peter's College, Bambalapitiya, scored his maiden century, an unbeaten 115 against President's College, Rajagiriya in an under 13 Division I Tournament match.

He arrived at the crease when the Petes were in trouble at 33 for 3 and carried his bat through with a fine knock of 115, which included 1 six and 15 boundaries to take the Petes total to 217 for 8 at the close in reply to President's College's 138 all out,enabling the Peterites to win the game.

This innings of his was followed by another half century(51) against Royal which enabled the Peterites to score 217 all out. Earlier in the season, Srimantha scored 28 n.o against Bandaranayake MV, Gampaha, 44 vs Joseph Vaz and 85 against Maliyadeva, Kurunegala.

In eight Tournament matches, he had an aggregate of 213 runs with three not outs and an average of 42.6. In addition he accounted for 12 victims behind the stumps. Srimantha is very grateful to his coach, L.H. Sunil for all the assistance and guidance given to him and the rest of the team. He also wishes to thank Rev. Fr Felician Perera, the Rector, Fr Sunil Sports Co-ordinator and Masters in charge, Janaka de Silva and Asela, also the asst. coach Udaya for all the help extended and hopes that the Junior Peterites will continue to do well and stay on top for many more years to come.
