Test evenly poised as India fight back WELLINGTON, Friday (Reuters) - India captured three quick wickets just as New Zealand looked set to stamp their authority on the game, leaving the home side at 201 for seven at the close of play on the second day of the first Test on Friday. New Zealand had a lead of 40, with three wickets remaining, after they bowled the visitors out for 161 on the first day. Opening batsman Mark Richardson was on 83 not out, while left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori was yet to score. New Zealand resumed at 53 for one after rain and a damp outfield had delayed the start of play by 4 1/2 hours and when they reached 181 for three they looked set to establish a comfortable first-innings lead. But the introduction of off-spinner Harbhajan Singh caused a New Zealand collapse as the visitors snatched three wickets for just five runs. Left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan started the collapse when he had Nathan Astle fending weakly to a rising delivery and spooning the ball to Harbhajan at point for a hard-hit 41 after he had shared a 70-run partnership with Richardson. Scott Styris, who scored a century and half-century on debut in the West Indies earlier this year, came down the pitch to Harbhajan in the next over and was smartly stumped by Parthiv Patel before debutant Jacob Oram was then given out lbw to Harbhajan without scoring to leave New Zealand 186-6. Wicketkeeper Robbie Hart was the final wicket to fall when he was lbw to Zaheer in the penultimate over for six.
