Speaking at the Sabha's monthly meeting, he said: "As representatives of the people we should earn the respect of rate- payers. We have no excuses if we fail to fulfil their needs". Anura Senarathna (UNF) charged that some urgent utility projects targeted to be completed by the year-end have not been completed as scheduled. He urged the Sabha to speed reconstruction work on rural roads in Bemmulla area which is in a sorry state. He said toilet facilities were not sufficient in Veyangoda town. Asoka Weerakkody (PA) said his request for street lamps in public places fell on deaf ears. S. H. M. Munas (UNF): Almost all approach roads in his area are neglected. "Decisions were taken but work has not commenced yet and as Pradeshiya sabha members we have a duty by the people," he said. P. Ranjan Amarasena (PA) said projects and reports are prepard and estimates are made but are not implemented in the end. Hemal Mendis (JVP): "We cannot be satisfied with services of some officials of the Sabha. Chairman Sugathadasa Senarath (UNF) said suggestions from the members will be given priority. Ratepayers should be induced to pay their arrears of rates and taxes so that the money could be utilised to speed up public utility projects, he said. Chandrika Dushantha (PA), Aruna Warusapperuma (UNF), P. Pushpakumara (PA), K. P. Piyasena (UNF) and Thushari Priyanga (UNF) also spoke. |
