The Executive Committee of the Matale Old Thomians Association, Colombo Branch has decided to conduct the All Island Inter-Club Seven-a-side Hockey Tournament in Matale in the month of May next year. All six previous hockey tournaments held since 1997 was conducted in Colombo but due to large public appeal and a personal request made by the Mayor of Matale Hilmy Mohamed the championship, 7th in the series will be conducted in Matale for the first time.

The best 16 'A' Division hockey playing clubs from Colombo, Matale, Kandy, Galle, Wennappuwa and Jaffna will be invited for this tournament. The Mayor of Matale Hilmy Mohamed was unanimously elected as the chairman of the main organising committee.

On a proposal made by the Mayor it was decided to honour all those who contributed, promote and brought fame to Matale in the field of hockey as way back from 1956. The awards ceremony will take place in the presence of the public during a gala musical show immediately after the conclusion of the hockey tournament.
