O/L invigilator assaulted

by A. H. M. Farook

An invigilator attached to Dharga Town Zahira College Exam Centre was allegedly assaulted by some unruly elements when they were stopped playing cricket at the school ground on Saturday.

The youths were playing cricket while the Ordinary Level Examination was in progress disturbing the students.

Exam supervisors tried to disperse them and in the ensuing argument an invigilator was allegedly assaulted.

The incident was immediately conveyed to the Commissioner General of Examinations in Colombo.

Six suspects produced before Kalutara Magistrate were remanded.

The Sri Lanka Teachers' Union for Educational Development condemned this incident and requested authorities to take action to prevent repetition of these incidents.

Aluthgama police said the suspects were to be bailed out yesterday.
