Sixth Int'l Medical Congress on Friday

Dr. Ananda Jayasinghe, Senior Lecturer Peradeniya Medical Faculty and Chairman of the Peradeniya Medical School Alumni Association will speak on our responsibility towards social tranquillity at the inauguration of the Alumni Association's 6th international medical congress on Friday, December 13 at the Plant Genetic Resource Centre in Gannoruwa, Kandy.

Veteran film director Dr. Lester James Peris has been invited to inaugurate the sessions as the chief guest. Dr. Jayasinghe speaking on his theme of social tranquillity said "The media professionals in our country have a very significant role to play in this endeavour of achieving social tranquillity."

He said antiquity knew the link between Art and Medicine. It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Dr. Lester James Peris, our chief guest, an artist, and a veteran film director, whose contribution to the field of cinematic art is unparalleled. He gave us a wonderful collection of family films, a rarity in the films of recent times. Instead, the society is bombarded with products that are based on extreme violence, aggression and abnormal behaviour. Whether or not this has had an impact on our society remains a question. However, today in our society, we experience unprecedented waves of violence. The association between the violence and such cinematic products, seems to me, more than a coincidence.

The theme of the two day congress is sharing experiences.
