Lead exemplary lives, says Minister Bakeer Markar

"We, the Muslims of Sri Lanka are a minority group of people here. Events happening all over the world indicate that Muslims are faced with trials and tribulations everywhere. So we as Muslims should conduct ourselves as exemplary as possible," observed Mass Communication Minister, Imthiyas Bakeer Markar.

The Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the 20th annual prize giving ceremony at Ahadiya Religious School, Colombo held at the S. de S. Jayasinghe Hall, Dehiwala last Sunday.

The Minister said: "A person with faith in God is a great person. He only creates a good family. That family in turn brings about a good society.

"Islam is a way of life. Islamic way of life is an exemplary one which everyone in the world can well adopt.

"When we look at what happens in Palestine and some other parts of the world we can hardly find any proper system which we can give as model to the entire world.

"In Palestine those innocent people are deprived of their homes, properties and lands. We live at an age which identifies these innocent people living on their own soil as terrorists.

"World powers say that Iraq must be taught a lesson because it does not listen to all what the UNO says. The very Israel too hardly listens to the UNO which implements various programmes of activities in respect of Palestine. Here no super power has the capacity to teach a lesson to Israel state. This is the very age we are faced with today, Imthiyas lamented.

Ahadiya schools of this nature help to bring about peace and harmony and create a good society where all can live peacefully in keeping with the teaching of Holy Quran and Hadeeth. These schools make great contributions also to make one a true Muslim to others in the society. I am always prepared to assist in their endeavours, Minister Imthiyas added.

Minister Bakeer Markar and Mrs. Bakeer Markar gave away the prizes to winners.
