Sports should be encouraged by all- DIG Herath by Sarath Malalasekera Sports is for gentlemen, all parents, teachers and elderly citizens of the country should encourage youth to take to sports in order to avoid getting involved in criminal activities. The 'triple concept,' Temple, School and Police always should get together to wipe out the crimes and to protect the youth of this country from using hard drugs and involving in crimes, said Crime and Intelligence, DIG Western Province South Sirisena Herath. DIG Herath was speaking at a ceremony held at the Athurugiriya Police Station to distribute trophies to the winners of the volleyball tournament conducted by the Athurugiriya Police led by Inspector Senarath Bandara, OIC, Athurugiriya Police assisted by Inspector Saman Jayalath, OIC, Crimes. The best players award was awarded to S. H. G. A. Bandara of the Malabe Young Stars Sports Club. DIG Herath said that he had instructed all the Officers-in-Charge of police stations in the Western Province South to set up a vigilance Committee to obtain assistance from the public. DIG Herath emphasised that with the assistance of the public, the police was able to recover many stolen vehicles and jewellery. The public co-operation is vital to combat crime, he added. Several MPs, Members of the Pradeshiya Sabha and businessmen in the area also participated. The final was played at the Athurugiriya Police grounds between Malabe Young Stars Sports Club and Athurugiriya Sports Club. Malabe Young Stars Sports Club was the winners. |
