by Ja-Ela Group Correspondent The 60th anniversary celebration of Christ King College commenced on the feast day of Christ the King with Holy Mass conducted by Rev. Fr. John Perera. Among the distinguished guests were Speaker of the House Joseph Michael Perera, Dr. Jayalath Jayawardene, Minister of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees and Felix Perera, MP for Gampaha District. Rev. Fr. Clifford Perera in his homily said that it was Marist Brothers that set up this College and nurtured it to such a level which has enabled it to produce thousands of good Christians and citizens. He remembered great Marist Brothers and teachers of his school days such as Bro. Peter, Bro Bernard, Bro. Felix at the meeting that followed the Holy Mass. Speaker Joseph Michael Perera said that Christ King College has produced great personalities and said that he, Dr. Jayawardene and Felix Perera together would work for this Development of this school. Minister Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena pledged his fullest support for the development of the school. Gampaha District MP Felix Perera said that the Parliament unanimously elected Joseph Michael Perera as the Speaker and said that the Speaker in Parliament paid the greatest tribute to Christ King College when he made his maiden speech as Speaker. He also thanked the government for allocating Rs. 50 lakhs for the development of the areas they represent and said that he would apportioned rupees five lakhs for his alma mater. |
