Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC) emerged winners in the manufacturing sector large category at the National HRM awards held last week at the Trans Asia Hotel.

The award recognised the excellent HRM practices and the outstanding relationship with the trade unions. It was specially mentioned that CTC's relationship with the trade unions stands out from the rest of the organisations. The award was received by two trade union representatives and the CEO of Ceylon Tobacco. The National HRM awards ceremony was organised by the Association of HR professionals, Institute of Personnel Management and the Post Graduate Institute of Management.

Ten dimensions of HRM were given attention at the selection process for the awards. Among them were; HRM: strategy - HRM policy fit, resourcing training and development, performance management, succession planning, industrial relations, employee welfare, and HRM information system. Over 60 companies participated and 23 were selected for the final round of which 10 companies received awards at the event.

Paul Hiltermann, the CEO of CTC said, "The award received by CTC recognises the HRM practices at work and most importantly the employee employer relationship.

CTC was commended for the outstanding trade union relationship which enables us as a company to be proud of our people," he said.

"We believe that people are our greatest assets and that's why our trade union participated in the awards ceremony held last week and the award was received jointly by the Management and the Unions," Hiltermann said.

The first ever National HRM awards will enable Sri Lanka to recognise and reward good HRM practices in organisations and benchmark them against world class standards.
