Chinese delegation here to promote international trade

A 12-member delegation from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT)/China Chamber of Commerce of International Commerce arrived yesterday in the country.

They will be here till December 5. The delegation is led by Liu Wenjie, Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.

The delegation will also visit the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce today at 2.00 p.m. The Agreement of Co-operation between the CCPIT/China Chamber of Commerce of International Trade and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will be signed on this occasion. The Agreement will lay the foundation for the formation of the China-Sri Lanka Business Council.

Tilak De Zoysa, Chairman, will sign the Agreement on behalf of the Chamber and Liu Wenjie will sign on behalf of the CCPIT.

The Sri Lanka - China Business Council was formed under the aegis of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on April 26, 2001. On signing the Agreement, the China-Sri Lanka Business Council will be formed in China, under CCPIT/China Chamber of Commerce of International Trade.

The objectives of the formation of the Bi-lateral Councils are to strengthen economic and trade ties between Sri Lanka and China, promote and expand trade, investment, joint ventures, services, tourism, economic, scientific, technological co-operation and other business relations between concerned organisations and firms of both parties and promote economic development of both countries.

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce said that the formation of the Business Councils mutually benefits the Sri Lankan and Chinese Business Community. It would also enhance the opportunities of the Sri Lankan Business community to participate in various Trade Fairs and Exhibitions organised by the CCPIT and open new avenues to expand business relations between Sri Lanka and China.
