42 People's Banks schols for students The People's Bank will award scholarships to students who have obtained excellent results at National and District Levels at the GCE (O/L) Examination held in December, 2001. This year 42 students have been selected by the bank for this scholarships program which is implemented annually to mark the bank's anniversary. Under this program the bank will provide monthly scholarships of Rs. 1,250 each for 17 students who have obtained the highest marks at National Level and Rs. 1,000 each for 25 students who have obtained the highest marks at District Level. This allowance will be paid for 24 months. The 42 children became entitled for scholarships on the basis of the certified result sheets obtained from the Commissioner of Examinations. Another significant feature is that these selections were made among school candidates who sat the examination for the first time. The scholarship program launched in 1993 by the People's Bank to give a fillip to higher education has been implemented uninterruptedly during the last 10 years. The scholarship awards ceremony will be held at the People's Bank Staff Training College Auditorium today at 2.00 p.m. under the patronage of Minister of Human Resource Development, Education and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku and Minister of School Education, Suranimala Rajapakse on the invitation of People's Bank Chairman, Lal Nanayakkara. People's Bank CEO/General Manager, Derek J. Kelly, Additional General Manager, Asoka de Silva, Senior Deputy General Manager, Martin Fernando, Senior Corporate Management Staff) scholarship awardees and others will be present. |
