MD Aitken Spence Travels Gehan M. Perera has been appointed Managing Director of Aitken Spence Travels Limited and Ace Travels and Conventions (Pvt) Limited from December 1. He has had an outstanding career since joining the company in its infancy in 1979 as a trainee. he was confirmed as an Executive an year later and entered the management as Assistant Manager in 1983. In 1987 he was promoted as Manager and later in 1989 as Assistant General Manager. In April 1991 he was appointed to the Board of Aitken Spence Travels and on April 1, 1997 he was appointed Director/General Manager. During this period he has increased the tour operator base for the company with an effective marketing strategy and was responsible to transform Aitken Spence Travels into a very professional outfit driving key initiatives such as an IT strategy, introducing ISO standards and HR development program. As a result the company has received high acclaim from their principals and has received a number of international awards. Gehan is currently the President of the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO). He was previously the Secretary and later the Vice President of SLAITO before being elected President this year. He is also a member of the Tourism Cluster facilitated by USAID. Gehan will be succeeded by Ravi Subramaniam as the Director/General Manager. |
