Vasana and Irunika win girls under-17 doubles title Wasana Sandareka and Irunika Priyadarshani of St. Joseph's Girls School Nugegoda won the girls under 17 doubles title at the junior national table tennis championships conducted by the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka and worked off at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium. In the finals Wasana and Irunika beat the sister combination of Ruhansi and Chanika Wijekoon from Maliyadeva BMV Kurunegala 11-4, 11-8, 8-11, 11-6. Wasana who is 14 years has earlier won three major titles in the Chrys Gunaratne Memorial tournament, YMCA open championships and junior national championships. She also won the Western Province under 15 girls singles event this year. Irunika who is 15 years of age has many titles to her name. She has won the all island novices girls under 15, under 17 and under 19 and women's novices event along with the women's intermediate singles at the all island novices/intermediate championships held during the year 2002. She also bagged the Western Province under 15 girls singles title this year. Irunika also had the satisfaction of winning the women's consolation event at the 56th senior national championships this year.
