Hakeem briefs Indian FM

NEW DELHI, Thursday (Reuters) - Sri Lanka's Muslims, who have expressed fears about their safety in areas dominated by the LTTE, want the next round of peace talks to address their concerns, Minister Rauff Hakeem said.

"There are some issues that are of concern to us," said Hakeem, Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.

"For instance, the expansion of the LTTE network in the North and East continues without regard for the need for discussion to resolve some of these contentious matters at the negotiation table," Hakeem told Reuters after talks with Indian Foreign Minister Yashwant Sinha.

"I am sure we can focus on it at the next round of talks and try and resolve it in an amicable manner," Hakeem said.

Hakeem said he briefed New Delhi about the "Muslim perspective" on the peace talks and discussed arrangements to help Muslims share power.
