by Matara Central correspondent In order to develop the skills and talents in various fields of the youth population in the Matara district a programme called "Wasantha Prathiba" workshop is being arranged by the Matara District office of the National Youth Council. The programme will commence for the year 2002/2003 before the end of November, 2002. Under this programme promoting of skills in the trades like Beauty Culture, Patchwork, Fabric Painting, preparation of Cakes, maintenance work related to Radio/Television and Information Technology and promoting body-building and art will be carried out. A get-together of representatives and staging of musical shows will be other items billed to be held during the period of workshop. This programme was released to the media at a press conference convened by the Matara District Youth Council housed at Pinidiya Mawatha off Hakmana Road, Matara by a team of officers headed by the Provincial Director (South) Kalyana Gunawardena of the youth councils. 250 youth will gain training in batches of 50 each in the above-said trades. A proficient team of trainers will conduct classes. Job-opportunities too will be afforded at this workshop with the assistance of owners of business establishments where vacancies exist. Candidates for training in gem cutting and polishing and computer technology too will be afforded at the Technical Institute run by the National Youth Council at Akuressa. Fifty trainees will be accommodated in these fields. Course period is six months. All details in this respect could be obtained from the office of Matara District Youth Council at Hakmana Road, Matara. Buddhika Pathirana, President/Managing Director of Samadi Praja Sanwardhana Padanama, Assistant Director of Youth Council P. Jayasenthee and several others were present at the Press Conference. |
