$ 225 m Coke and power plant for Trinco

Venkatesh Industries (Ceylon) Ltd., the investor of a Coke and power plant with the projected investment of US$ 225 million would set up their plant at Trincomalee.

The co-generation plant will use non-conventional energy resources generating electricity. Heat in waste gases from the coke ovens will be recovered in a special waste-heat recovery boilers. This steam will be used to generate 110 MW of uninterrupted electric power in a steam turb generator and approximately 97 MW power will be available for supply to the national grid. There would be an initial employment generation of 2000, a meeting in Colombo noted.

Nirupam Sen, High Commissioner of India, Jon Westborg, Ambassador of the Royal Norwegian Embassy, the Deputy High Commissioner of India and Arjunna Mahendra, Chairman, Board of Investment of Sri Lanka were present.
