Lanka to take part in two international Food Promotion Fairs in Germany Sri Lanka will participate in two international Food Promotion Fairs in Germany next year. According to an official of the Export Development Board the first event Sri Lanka would be participating would be the 'Food Logistica' exhibition from January 16 to 21 in Berlin, Germany. "Around 12 companies, involved in agriculture based products will participate", he said. He said that Sri Lanka has not taken exhibition space for this event. "The Sri Lankan delegation is taking part in this event as a study mission group." The official said that they would obtain the views of exhibitors and buyers of the Food Logistica exhibition and gather information as to what particular products of Sri Lanka should display at the next exhibition. 'Fruit Logistica 2003' is one of the largest trade fairs for the fruit and vegetable sectors in the world. Over 13,000 trade visitors and 824 exhibitors from 77 countries will attend this annual event. The next event would be the German Anuga Food Festival which will be held next October. "Sri Lanka would have exhibition space of around 75 Square feet." He said that the EDB is hoping to promote Palm based products at this exhibition. "We will be conducting workshops in rural areas for farmers on new techniques and value addition." He said that coconut and tea based products will be the main items that would be exhibited from Sri Lanka. "In addition herbal, fruits and agricultural products too would be displayed at this exhibition. ss |
