Govt to provide facilities to national schools, says Minister

Malwana group correspondent

It is the government's intention to provide facilities to the 326 national schools in the island, said School Education Minister Suranimala Rajapakse.

The Minister speaking as the Chief Guest at the prize giving of Henegama Central College at the school hall on Tuesday morning, said action has been taken to improve these schools. Data on these schools are being collected while equipment too will be provided to the school. Teachers will also be trained, Rajapakse said.

The Minister said, computer literacy is essential in this modern world.

"Around 72 computer training centers will be established in schools. It is hoped to open 500 computer training centers next year," Rajapakse said.

The Minister said teachers who are transferred, get students to agitate against such transfers.

This is due to lack of discipline in school. Students are required not to make such demands, he said.

Kelaniya Zonal Education Director D. P. Amarakoon and Henegama Central College Principal D. D. S. Jayasinghe also spoke.
