With the current peace process, donor agencies have come forward to help Sri Lanka. With help from the international community and investors, the country will be able to come out of the economic crisis, Minister of Power and Energy Karu Jayasuriya said. The government is conscious of its responsibility towards the people and has comprehensive plans for a secure future, he said as chief guest at the annual prize-giving of Veyangoda Bandaranaike National School on Monday. The Minister said the government was compelled to adhere to strict fiscal policies temporarily to achieve this goal of bringing long-term benefits to the country. Jayasuriya said the government will allocate more funds for education. There are 9,887 schools and 181,000 teachers in the country. It is the teachers' duty to serve the younger generation with dedication, educating and guiding them on the proper code of conduct and moral standards, the Minister added. He said the government will allocate Rs. 3 million next year for the development of Veyangoda Bandaranaike National School. The government is aware of the people's difficulties and also conscious of its responsibilities towards the masses. The government has plans for a happy and secure future for them, Jayasuriya said. Gampaha zone's Director of Education Justin Navaratne, Veyangoda Bandaranaike National School principal Priyantha Sri Lal Nonis and Gampaha Mayor Ajith Mannapperuma also spoke. |
