from J. Gunadasa Jayawickrema-Galewela group correspondent Kohilawatte Gedara Malanee Jayaweera (31) a mother of three children who lived at Wahacotte-Palapathwela left for Saudi Arabia on October 28th 2002, to work as a housemaid at Sheik Salih Sulthan Al Dosary's home in the city of Daman. Yaddehi Gedara Wijetileke (36) her husband received a message from Al Akeem Foreign Employment (Private) Company which arranged her employment abroad, that Malanee had committed suicide by hanging herself, the day she landed in that country. The husband and the woman's relatives could not believe this. They suspect that some foul play must have been behind her death. The dead woman's husband told the 'Daily News' that he and several family members accompanied her to the airport on the day of the flight. She was in a happy mood. They had seen that she entered the inner-chamber of the airport with the passport and baggage willingly to take the flight. The husband and other family members have requested the Foreign Employment Bureau and the Labour Ministry to endeavour to get a proper medical certificate based on a full medical inquest in order to know the cause of death. They have also sought the support of those public bodies to get-down the body of the deceased to the island. Y. G. Amila Jayasankha Wijetileke (10) the eldest son of the dead-woman is attending school. Y. G. Sandaruwan Lakmal is four years old and the youngest Y. G. Dulara Elsan is an infant of one year and three months old. |
